How To Make Burger Bowl (Vegan)
First, cook your fries as they technically take the longest to cook versus the burger ingredients. If using packaged fries, preheat the air fryer or oven according to the packaged instructions and cook! For my seasoned homemade fries, preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees F or the oven to 425 degrees F,
Skip this step if you used packaged fries. Wash and peel (if desired) potatoes and cut them into thin and long fries shapes. Place the fries into a mixing bowl with oil, garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt and pepper and mix well until evenly coated. Grease your air fryer tray/basket (or line your baking sheet if using the oven) lightly if needed, and place the fries on the tray in a single layer so they are not touching each other. Air fry at 400 degrees F for a total of around 20 minutes, tossing or flipping halfway, or until crispy to your liking. If using the oven, bake at 425 degrees F for around 20-25 minutes (or crispy to your liking), flipping halfway.
While the fries are cooking, begin making your vegan ground “beef”! If using store-bought veggie ground round, cook according to instructions. For homemade vegan beef using tofu, heat oil in a large non-stick pan on medium-high heat. Crumble up the extra firm tofu with your hands and add it to the pan. Cook for around 2-3 minutes or until most of the liquid has evaporated (tossing frequently) and the tofu starts to look nice and golden. Turn the heat down to low and add smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder and nutritional yeast, and mix well to coat. Add soy sauce, dark soy sauce (or normal soy sauce) and liquid smoke (optional but recommended) and mix well to coat evenly. Set aside.
Next, make the burger sauce! In a bowl, mix together vegan mayonnaise, relish, yellow mustard, barbecue sauce, garlic powder and salt until well-combined. Taste and adjust ingredients as desired.
Then, prepare burger bowl vegetables by chopping lettuce, cutting tomatoes, slicing the onion and dicing dill pickles.
Assemble your vegan burger bowls: into serving bowls, place desired amount of lettuce, tomatoes, onion and chopped dill pickles. Add the desired amount of the burger sauce and mix/toss well. Top with a serving of the vegan ground “beef” and prepared fries. Drizzle with more burger sauce (or ketchup) as needed. Enjoy right away!
