Silken Tofu Sauce Recipe

Silken Tofu Sauce Recipe

I’ll show you how to make a pasta sauce with silken tofu in 10 mins or less! This silken tofu sauce recipe creates a creamy sauce that is high in protein, making it perfect for pasta!

Silken tofu is a wonderful ingredient to make into a sauce as it’s soft, smooth and comes with a creamy texture. A sauce using silken tofu will have more moisture and a custard-like consistency creating a savory sauce!

Recipe for Silken Tofu Sauce

Turning silken tofu into a sauce is very easy! All you have to do is blend flavourful ingredients together with your silken tofu and you’ll have a delicious sauce to use for so many different types of dishes, including a high-protein pasta sauce thanks to the tofu.

Feel free to customize the ingredients to whatever you plan to add to your silken tofu sauce too.

If you’re making pasta, use a pot to boil your pasta according to instructions and saute in a pan some diced onion and minced garlic as I love adding these two ingredients in the blender with the silken tofu and other seasonings for an amazing pasta sauce (makes 3 servings so double measurements if you want more!).

Highly recommend also making one of my dairy-free parmesan recipes to add on top of your pasta, such as my Cashew parmesan or hemp parmesan!

Ingredients

  • Silken Tofu (or soft tofu)
  • Onion
  • Garlic
  • Nutritional Yeast
  • Lemon Juice
  • Miso paste
  • Salt & Pepper
  • Oil

This Silken Tofu Sauce is dairy-free, vegan, nut-free and gluten-free (use GF pasta).

How To Make Silken Tofu Sauce For Pasta

  • Start by bringing a pot of water to a boil and cooking your pasta according to the package instructions. Don’t forget to save some pasta water (around 1/2 cup) to use in the sauce later!
  • While the pasta is cooking, heat up some oil in a pan.
  • Add the diced onion and sauté for about a minute, until it softens and becomes fragrant. Next, throw in the minced garlic and sauté for another 30 seconds. Remove from the heat.
  • In a blender, combine the silken tofu, sautéed onion and garlic, lemon juice, nutritional yeast and miso paste. Blend until smooth.
  • Gradually add some of the reserved pasta water while blending. The starchy water helps the sauce bind to the pasta and gives it a more creamy texture.
  • Once your pasta is cooked, drain it but don’t rinse it—you want to keep that starch.
  • Return the pasta to the pot and pour in the creamy high-protein tofu sauce. If the sauce feels too thick, add a bit more pasta water or small splashes of regular water to thin out the mixture.
  • Finish by adding salt and pepper to taste, and sprinkle in some fresh parsley for a pop of colour and freshness (optional). Top with vegan parmesan (Cashew parmesan recipe or hemp parmesan recipe), if desired!

As I’m trying to reduce my uric acid and nutritional yeast is high in purines, I replace the yeast with some white soy sauce flavored with truffles and upped the miso very slightly. Some might say my sauce falls flat of yours, but it does the job for me, thank you.

Thanks for sharing the tip for a replacement. I don’t like nutritional yeast, so I will try this when I make this great recipe.

Delicious sauce that I will definitely be making on the regular. I used medium firm tofu instead of silken tofu because I couldn’t find any at the grocery store. I just added a bit more water to smooth it out in the blender and doesn’t seem to have effected the flavour. thank you for sharing this recipe.
