Ground “Beef” Tofu Recipe

Ground Beef Tofu

This delicious ground “beef” tofu recipe takes about 5 minutes to cook using tofu and ground beef seasoning like garlic powder, onion powder, soy sauce, paprika and nutritional yeast (which often has vitamin B12) ! It’s a quick and easy vegan beef substitute to make!

This ground “beef” made out of tofu is a must-try! If you also have liquid smoke at home, I recommend adding it to your ground tofu beef as it provides a smoky flavour, but it’s optional since I know many people might not have this ingredient.

This is a one-pan recipe that requires very little effort and is great for meal prepping (as it makes 4-5 servings!) or just to have stored in the fridge to add to any dish like tacos, burrito bowls, or pasta. This will keep in the fridge for 4-5 days, and you can store in the freezer, ready to be reheated to enjoy whenever.

How To Make Ground Beef Tofu

To make the best ground beef tofu, you want to press all the water out of your tofu to allow your tofu to absorb your beef seasoning flavours and give it a meaty texture. Press your tofu using a tofu press or by wrapping your tofu block with paper towel and placing a heavy object (such as a heavy pan you plan to use) on top to press water out (ideally allow for 10-15 mins if possible).

Next, begin making your tofu ground beef by heating oil on a pan or wok on medium-high heat.

Crumble the tofu with your hands to create a ground beef-like texture.

Cook your tofu for a few minutes, stirring frequently, to allow most of the liquid to evaporate and allow the tofu to become slightly golden.

Add smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and nutritional yeast to season your tofu. Mix the tofu and spices thoroughly until well combined.

Pour in soy sauce, dark soy sauce (if you don’t have, substitute with more soy sauce), and liquid smoke (optional) for a smoky taste. Mix well.

Enjoy your ground beef tofu right away as a substitute for ground meat or store in a container to use in meal prep or for meals this week (tacos, burrito bowls, pasta, etc).
