How To Make Gochujang Tofu in Air Fryer

For a meatier and firmer texture, an optional step is to freeze the tofu overnight and thaw it out completely (you can thaw in room temperature or microwave in 30-second increments while squeezing out excess water). If not freezing, you can simply press the tofu for about 20-30 minutes, if desired or skip this step entirely.

Rip or cut tofu into bite-sized chunks. In a mixing bowl, add tofu and coat with oil. Toss in cornstarch until well-coated.

Arrange the tofu pieces in the air fryer tray, making sure they aren’t touching or overlapping too much. Air fry the tofu pieces at 390°F (200°C) for 6 minutes, flipor toss, then air fry for another 6 minutes or until golden and crispy.

While the tofu is in the air fryer, mix the sauce ingredients. In a bowl, combine gochujang, ketchup, soy sauce, maple syrup or agave nectar, garlic powder, onion powder and cinnamon (if using). Add 2-3 tbsp of water to thin out the sauce and mix well until smooth.

Once the tofu is cooked, add the pieces back into the mixing bowl and toss in the sauce until each piece is fully coated.

Top with chopped green onions (optional but recommended) and sesame seeds and enjoy right away on its own or with rice or noodles.

This is so easy and so yummy! I don’t have an air fryer but I followed the recipe except for the air fryer part and put the tofu in the oven at 425 degrees F for about 20 mins and it came out crispy. Will definitely be making this again, thank you! 🙂

This is so delicious! I was lazy and didn’t want to use my air fryer because it’s so small, so I baked the tofu as suggested above. Perfect! I’m using this for your protein meal prep with the edamame, rice and broccoli. Thank you for the recipe, Rose!

So easy and really flavorful! I cut the gochujang down to 2 tablespoons instead of 3 to minimize the heat and it came out perfect. Even once drenched in the delicious sauce, the tofu stayed really crispy (and I didn’t bother freezing or pressing it). A restaurant quality dish. I will be making this again for sure! Oh and use the cinnamon 🙂
